Here you can see the "fake SSS" hand painted to make it look translucent, just using diffuse. 1 Month after i made this work, allegorithmic added a realtime "SSS" preview into Substance Painter. Not in time, but very welcome. :)

Had the pleasure to work as Texture Artist for the American Horror Story Season 8 Teaser made by on a collab between Tendril Studio and some other studios. I was responsible to create the textures for the two scorpions.
All the texture work was made using Substance Painter. Hand painted layers were needed to give some volume and to make it looks more translucent without adding internal geometry. So i had to paint the textures with some good hint of "SSS" already embedded on Difuse/Albedo maps.
I did some renders just for check the textures, using Substance Painter internal iRay engine.
