- This is my first serious test making a TimeLapse using my digital intervalometer (i’ve built it from scratch using Atmega 168 (based on Arduino).
The “Zooms and Pans” are made in Post Production.
That was 1400 JPG Pictures, at the interval of 10s between photos. The results are very fluid cloud revolutions.
The video was made using a 7D on Manual ISO 100, and 18-55 stock lens. The Viewpoint is from my Apartment at São Paulo (Brazil).
The SoundTrack was composed exclusively for the video and made on My Ipad when i was pre-processing the images. Soon i will make a bigger post about my digital intervalometer project shading details, etc.
DIY HDR Ball

Today i’ve did something that almost everyone on the VFX area wants to do. I’ve built an “HDR Ball” using a Desk Lamp. I was on a Store, and saw a Philips Desk lamp, with a shine chromed Globe and didn’t think twice. I took it to my home. It cost me about $20. It’s far from perfect, there’s 3 holes around it, but it works well from certain angles.
Some people uses chromed xmas balls, but i’ve found it less reflective and not so good on the reflection quality. It must works for just HDR light anyway

Soundtrack from Mark Ronson – Circuit Breaker
This video was made to test a way to lock your scene focus to an “focal point”, or object. I don’t find this important, or so usefull, but it’s interesting easy effect to achieve with very simple use of 3DSMax expressions/Script. VERY Simple. Hope you like it.
The video was subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese, but there’s no need to read the subs, put it in fullscreen and watch.

Soundtrack from a Tv Advert from the 80s of ZXSpectrum computer.
Today i’ve just shoot this teaser Ad of my ArcadeMachine. The film Look was developed by me using a bunch of composition and After Effects Techniques.
The idea is to look like a nostalgic 80′s advert. The arcade in the movie was completely assembly/built by me.
This is the second teaser of my MiniArcade Machine called RETROMACHINE. It’s a orginal design of a mini-multi-arcade-machine. Beware : This ad is fully 80′s style.

My role in this Project started on the pre-production, working with the Director/Agency to help on the development of the characters actions on our “virtual game world”, and converting it on an Storyboard/Animatic.
I acted towards the 3D direction as well at all post production and assembly of the 3D renders (Passes). I’ve worked on the Look and Development phase, and generating elements in the composition to apply the “VIDEOGAME” concept to the entire piece.
Being responsible for the final composition and assembly of the 2D animated part, color treatment, and side effects added to the assembly step, such as smoke, shadows of the characters, floating t-shirt icons, particleFx, and 2D animations of Letering signs within the film.
There’s a “VideoGame” pixelated treatment over the entire image, that makes it cooler than we can see at Vimeo. PLEASE Play it in FULLSCREEN to see that effect.

Digital Crochet – Particles RnD

This was my latest experience/RnD with 3dsmax PFlow. It’s some kind of “embroidery” using particles and procedural maps. This is a simple concept idea, but i like the results and simple workflow. Very simple to do and effective to be honest.Customizable and flexible.
I’ve just animated a Map (In this case, a Gradient Radial), in Black and White, and the system makes the “lines” germinating on any surface… The animation is triggered by the procedural map luminance and the particle shapes came from an instanced geometry (animated).
I can imagine some nice effects using this technique.
Actually i am wondering to make a bunch of “title animations” using my Kumodot logo apearing with some sort of mixed techniques…
I know…It’s very short, it’s just a proof of concept, i will do some more animations using this.
The Vimeo Quality destroyed some details. Fell free to download the mov to see it with much better compression.

Yesterday i’ve presented my first try on the scripting area… With a bunch of randomizing tools for my use… Today i am uploading the new verion for download at the CODING section. It’s the 0.95. I’ve added UNDO for all actions, i’ve made little cosmetic adjustments and added the Material ID Shuffler, to add and scramble the added/existing materialIDs. It’s usefull to make scenes more realistic changing the textures (like dirt, for instance) randomically.

Coding!
I like to code. I am not talking that i am a good coder, but i like to use little scripts to improve my workflow, and like to learn about coding to help my on some tedious tasks. I advice everyone to start learning a bit of coding in any 3D Package, cause it opens your mind and break some workflow limitations. This is my very first decent script (MaxScript for 3DSMAX). Simple and usefull. It’s the first version and i will improve it with more functionalities very soon. Here’s the BETA version 0.5 of the script if you want to test it by yourself. Stay tunned on the new CODING section for updates.
